To my back door.
This was yesterday morning and I thought it was a necklace or lanyard dropped right next to the screen door. Black and white. And pretty. Then I saw the red tongue and I got a bit nervous.
I didn’t want the dogs to interact with it. I hate to see reptile tails hanging out of my dogs’ mouths. And I didn’t know what kind of snake it was then. I knew it wasn’t a rattlesnake.
Luckily, they didn’t notice it on their way in. Once they were in, I shut the glass door. I didn’t want the snake coming inside. I did my research and let it be. It was likely very young and it found another place to be. When I next checked, it was nowhere to be seen.
Yet another mysterious wildlife encounter.
And I’m quite aware of the fact that it was a baby kingsnake.
The mind wants to make connections where perhaps they don’t exist, and yet…
The first snake I wove was a Sonoran Mountain Kingsnake. And I’m in the process of setting up an online store. One of the things I’m listing and selling are the snake finger puppets I made last year.
(My store’s name is Ra’s Weird Store and I will definitely post here when it’s open.)
Anyway, it’s springtime and the snakes are out.
