Guild Challenge

This year for the Fiber Arts Tucson show, the guild is encouraging members to participate by making items inspired by Matisse, Mondrian & Pollack.

When I read about the challenge many months ago, I made a small open warp tapestry of Medusa that was inspired by Matisse’s Icarus.

Medusa

I’d like to make a bigger version of this, but I promised myself no new bigger tapestries until I finish my current work in progress based on art my son made a couple years ago.

I recently finished the nose on this tapestry.

Lately I’ve been felting items with Pollack as inspiration.

When I was was a child, my parents took me to lots of different museums including MOMA. Pollack always intrigued me. His work always seemed so simple and complicated at the same time. Like anyone could paint like he did, but not really.

Anyone can splatter paint on a canvas, but only a select few will get any kind of recognition for it.

Anyway, here are some Pollack inspired felted items.
