Bye, Bye June

It’s the third of July and I am relishing the couple more hours of quiet time I have before picking up my child from day camp. I always hope to have the energy to write at night, but I haven’t felt that recently. Just a whole lot of stress about working with the public during a pandemic. Having to remind people to cover their nose and mouth with their masks brings me stress.

At least the computer sessions are limited to a half hour per day. And everyone has to have a mask on to enter and have a temp of no more than 100.4. If you don’t have a mask, the library has one for you. And even our displays are willing to mask up.

Work feels like a race to try to get important work done in the off hours when one isn’t stationed at temperature taking, curbside pickup, greeting, or desk. Most of my wring these days has been done for my library. I’ve been working with a team to try to have more content available on the website for parents and loved ones of 0-5 aged kids. It feels especially important now that all of our in person programming has been suspended.

I also wrote a blog post to help parents with the challenge of talking to their young children about race and racism. Black lives matter. I’m trying to stay aware of what I can do to help promote social justice. I deleted my Facebook account yesterday. I don’t want to be associated with it at all anymore. I will miss seeing Joy Harjo’s posts though.

I’m grateful we finally got a bit of rain and hopeful that we might get enough more to put out the Bighorn Fire. It’s been really hard watching the mountains burn on top of everything else happening in the world.

    Hi Sarah!

The pandemic is causing stress all over, even to those of us in lockdown. I can appreciate how hard it must be to have to interact with the public – hang in there!!! Love, Joan

    Dear Sarah,
You are doing good work in the midst of trials and fear. I’m proud of you. When you have time in the future, you will have even more to draw upon for your writing.
Stay safe while the idiots are making it difficult.
An excellent book on white privilege and excellent analyses of how it functions and keeps the white boys (and girls) in power.
Love you and Maka. Stay safe.
