Celebrating wins

October always seems like the kick off to the crazy busy time of year.

I know I’ve been busy lately – some with things I have to do, some with things I want to do, and some with things that are the right thing to do. And no matter what time of year it is, I often don’t take time to celebrate my wins. I’m trying to change that.

While I may not have sold anything at Fiber Arts Tucson this year, I’m super proud of myself for having given it a go. I enjoyed spending a lot of time around others that enjoy fiber. I had some memorable conversations and discovered some things I want to try.

I did have a person ask about buying an item that was not for sale and for display only – A Map of Dragons. I told her she could buy a print and how to do so – the link to my Printify store can be found here.

I sent a print of this tapestry to my mom. She liked it enough to frame it and put it on the wall – which is kinda big for me.

Maybe not the best frame, but it’s what could be found.

I like that it still looks like a weaving behind the frame.

Another win was getting help figuring out the homemade inkle loom I purchased last spring.

The homemade inkle loom with warp strings.

I’ve started weaving my first band.

I’ve already had a couple of the heddles come undone during the weaving and “fixed” them as best I could. (It will be a bit wonky, but this is my first attempt so I’m okay with it.) Next project I’ll make all new heddles for the loom, but for this one I used the ones already made that came with it.

And finally, I finished my “feathered” cloak enough to be able to wear it for Halloween (pictured above). It’s wholly made from repurposed textiles and I had a hard time getting it to hang right. If I want to wear it again, I’ll likely end up adjusting the neck. But for someone who hasn’t ever felt confident while sewing, I think it came out pretty well.
