Five woven snake finger puppets by Sarah Batchelder

A poem, some snakes, and stuff for sale

This morning I wrote a poem:

September Constellations

Freya
Kitsune
And The Sisters
Finally
I get to see you again.

In early morning sky
You bring tears to my eyes.

Later
When I feel the rage
Right under my skin
Like an insatiable itch

I can think of you
And find pinpricks
Of hope
That soothes
My soul.

And a couple of days ago, I finally finished my first try at finger snake puppets.

Ahsoka Snake lies on top of Sangria Slider, Elder Fuzz, Golden Eyes, and Lavender Lou (from left to right).

They do all fit on my fingers, just not they way I had hoped. I’m going to try again using homespun yarns – like Elder Fuzz and Lavender Lou – with a slightly different design, to see if they work a bit better.

Before I restring my tapestry loom, though, I need to finish up this little tree.

It’s a skinny piece that started with a mistake. I grabbed the wrong homespun yarn to try and match up with one of the snakes. Then I had some leftover gold from my dragon weave…. Next thing I know, I have a tree.

I will likely have this piece for sale at the next Fiber Arts Tucson show. If you like seeing amazing things made by hand and you are in Tucson, you should come!

I submitted work to be juried in tapestry by the guild. If I pass, I can sell items in this show. I won’t know for at least another week or so.

And speaking of selling – I finally opened my print on demand store. The link to this store lives on a new page on this site called Things For Sale. I will be adding items to this POD store regularly. For now I’ve got a couple of mugs, a cap, some shirts, a decal, and a print – all have weirdly woven designs.

Please think of purchasing something for that really weird person in your life.
