Meet Sylvia Snake

She’s a Sonoran mountain kingsnake. And a queen.

Ssssssssss

She’s my first attempt at an intentionally curvaceous pulled warp tapestry. (The curves in my other pulled warp tapestries were results of “let’s see what happens” – not intentional.)

I think she came out sssssswell.

I took her off of this stick pictured above, last night, to see how she would fit on a different stick and I’m still fiddling with that one.

She joins two other handwoven puppets I’ve made – Twirl and Trygon (who should have an umlaut over the o, but I don’t know how to insert it on a tablet keyboard. Just like I don’t know how to insert accents on a tablet or phone keyboard. Whenever I practice Spanish on Duolingo, I always get “reminded” about missing accents. I know they’re supposed to be there, I just don’t know how to type them in or find them on a Spanish keyboard.)

Her tongue is retractable.

While I always have weaving projects I want to try, I definitely want to try some smaller finger puppet sized snakes as my next pulled warp project.

Before I do that though, I am going to warp my rigid heddle loom with the intention of trying a wedge weave tapestry. I have a design in mind that I doodled last night. Now I have to figure out how much warp string and what fibers.

And I’m also going to help the guild get set up at the Pima County Fair today.
