Projects update: shade cloth (and more)

I’ve had so many balls in the air lately, but not many finished products to brag about.

The website building is going at an amazing slow rate, but I did finally get an About page published. And while I’m sure I’ll tweak it in the next upcoming days and months, it’s a relief that there’s something there now.

My pulled warp snake weaving is progressing. I’m working on the final panel – on the head!

The card stock inserts and open spaces are where the curves will be once the warp is pulled. I’ve learned as I’ve gone along to pay more attention to where the stripes align with the curves. I’m sure I will have some that look a bit off. And that’s probably going to be more realistic looking (hopefully).

Once all the panels are off the loom, I’ll sew them together. I’m weaving slits at the tail and head with the intention of adding sticks later. I think this snake will make a fine puppet once it’s woven.

And speaking of puppets, I did get my son to help me make a video – and it came out horribly. I need to make a proper stage, I think. Or if not proper, then something better than what I had. I think I also need to find an adult to work with. Or invest in some mounting equipment. Or maybe have my son intentionally move while filming.

On a more practical side, I’ve pulled out the shade cloth early this year and have started to get some hung around the porch area and yard.

When I spoke with my mother last weekend and told her what I had been up to, she had no idea what shade cloth was or why I would hang it up. She’s a New Yorker. Shade cloth is very much an Arizona thing. The first place to get covered is always the trampoline. It just makes bouncing more fun when it’s not in the hot sun.

The top of my head hits the shade cloth when I bounce.

We had some very warm weather last week. And I wanted to be outside, but it was too hot.

And now the evening sun hits the kitchen window, making it extra warm. So, I put up shade cloth every year and take it down for the winter months.

I’ve only covered a bit of the garden on the west and around some seedlings.

The garden has been doing well. I have lots of bird visitors seeking seeds – arugula, radishes, and lettuce are seeding.

The chamomile is wondrously everywhere. (I need to harvest more of it.) I harvested peas the other day and worked them into a veggie stir fry. I have fresh herbs and green onions. And beautiful poppy flowers.

Some poppies with mesquite tree seedlings.

And I will end with the picture of flowers.
