Finally Finished!

I recently put the finishing touch on a weaving sculpture I started last year – my water spirit and I’m thrilled that my Elemental Spirits series is now complete with earth, air, fire, and water. I started it sometime in the Spring of 2023.

I actually came very close to finishing this last year, but the three dimensional part did not feel very strong. (The spirit wasn’t holding it’s head up high enough). Adding additional fibers did not seem to give it enough strength, so I ended up attaching an abalone bead to its neck.

A mini handwoven tapestry sculpture of a water spirit by fiber artist Sarah Batchelder. The predominant colors are shades of blue with some white. The piece has shells and beads woven into it and a head that resembles a snake or serpent.

I have a reel showing all four spirits together here.

And while I still am dealing with the aftermath of moving, I am also feeling more settled. I am now a new member of the Tucson Handweavers and Spinners Guild and have even volunteered to give a tapestry demonstration at the next Fiber Arts Tucson show. I won’t have any work for sale at this show (due to timing), but hopefully I will in the future. I’ve signed up to demo on Saturday. If you happen to be in town and want to see how my next piece is progressing, please stop by and say hi.
