Business Cards

I spent time today making my first round of business cards to give to librarians. It has basic contact info for booking library programs as well as a few new titles I’m giving myself – public library consultant and public library mentor.

I’ve been having difficulties trying to figure out how to redesign my websites. I want to keep my Woven Bits website as a place to showcase my fiber art. But I’m also interested in expanding into functional items for niche markets.

Specifically, I’m interested in making flannel sets for children’s librarians to use in their storytimes. In theory, these can be made in house. Martha Cooper Library has an awesome collection one of a kind flannels – many of which were made by teen volunteers. I’ve made more than a few sets over the years. However, many librarians don’t have the time or inclination to make them. Or maybe they don’t feel confident in their art skills.

I think it makes sense to list handmade flannel sets on this website, since they are more library related.

The Penguin went over the Iceberg

This is one of the sets I made for Floyd Memorial Library last winter. The song uses the same tune as “The Bear went over the Mountain”.

Flannel sets are a fun way to visualize songs and rhymes and kids love to handle them. They are also a great tool for librarians who might feel a bit self-conscious singing in front of a crowd, since it gives a focal point aside from the presenter.

Look for changes coming to this website soon.
