Woven in strong

My weave within a weave is coming along. It’s not a creeper – even if it is heavily influenced by one. I’m working on the sky now and the frame no longer needs support. Everything seems locked in place.

Lots of boxes here

It feels good to see the progress on this piece. It really is all an experiment. I’m trying various textures and sizes of fibers – lots of repurposed fibers are in this piece. Old headphones, jeans, t-shirts, produce bags, and ribbons are woven in as well as some yarns made from natural fibers.

A little closer

Lately weaving has been very therapeutic. It’s been a stressful year. Moving, transitioning, and getting ready to move again. Weaving helps settle my mind.

Much like this tapestry is a big experiment, so has the last year been. I saw an opportunity and I took it. I wanted to try some new things and I’m glad I did. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my family in the process. I’ve learned a lot about spaces as well – what I like and what I need from living spaces.

We’re returning to Arizona this summer where I will be utterly content to reacquaint myself with the desert.
