A New Strap for a Handwoven Bag

I’ve started working on making a new strap for a bag I wove for my son years ago. He was five when I made it for him. And while it fit him well then, it’s a bit small for him now.

He was super excited when I made it for him, but didn’t use it very much. He’s started using it recently, when we go out walking the dog. He carries his notepad and pen, as well as some mints.

A small, multicolored woven bag made by fiber artist, Sarah Batchelder. The bag is woven from an assortment of fibers, including a black nylon strap and an old pair of earbuds. A plastic gear is attached for decoration.
This strap will soon be replaced.

I plan to make the strap longer and from different material. The recycled produce bags I originally used was an eco friendly idea, but makes for a scratchy carrying experience. This time around, I plan to braid some long cotton strips together. I’m sure it will be much more comfortable. I’ve already sewn the fabrics together. I just need to braid and attach.

We learn as we go.
