My Life’s Puzzle

Happy Juneteenth!

I welcome this new federal holiday in my life, even if I’m not quite sure how to celebrate it. I’ll probably start with food.

My fiber art has had to necessarily slow down, as I puzzle the pieces of my life together. I have family on the East Coast that I want to be close to right now. And there is a lot involved in getting there.

I’ve been applying for part-time librarian jobs and getting my house ready to rent. I’m also continuing to engage in a two-stage pranayama breathing routine in the morning and other meditation techniques I’ve been learning recently. This has been helpful in helping to tame my anxiety about upcoming changes.

And I am reminding myself of all the other times in my life that I’ve made big changes and how things have worked out in the past. I am hoping that this time will be no different and all the puzzle pieces will fall into place nicely.

Here is a photo of the current devil’s claw eye I am working on:

A partial hand-stitched eye made from a devil's claw seed pod and various fibers.

Breathing is a good place to start! I hope things unfold as you want them too.

Sarah — I really hope the pieces fall into place for you, as they did for me when I made the major move from Tucson to the Chicago area back in 2009, which you helped ease my mind over. — Marcia

    1. Thanks for the reminder, Marcia! I was definitely in a less anxious period of my life then. I’ve been trying to connect with my previous selves lately. The ones that have moved a bunch of times and know that things will work out.
