Mistakes Were Made

The very first weaving I made on my tapestry loom was a free form piece I have hanging above my bed. It was mostly an experimentation of fibers and getting a feel for weaving. I intentionally chose fibers of various thicknesses just to see how they would go together knowing that others would likely find it weird. And some of the fibers in the piece have special significance.

It’s called “Mistakes Were Made” and I was thrilled with how it came out. Even with its pulled in center, bumps and unintended knots, I love it. It’s a reminder of where I’ve been and how I got here.

Mistakes Were Made (2017)

When I got the notification that Shopify was increasing their prices – just after setting up a store there – I had a Homer “d’oh” moment. A kicking myself for not going with my instincts. (Which was to set up shop on my website. Price was a factor – which is why I tried something else first.)

“Progress is not a straight line.” Or so I’ve been told.

I am sure I will continue to make many mistakes on this journey of self-entrepreneurship. It’s kind of a given. I am human and humans make mistakes, especially when trying new things.

How I roll with the mistakes is really what matters. I’ve learned how to set up a store in two different platforms now. Perhaps the third time will be the charm.
