In the middle of the night

I woke to the sounds of laughter and screaming.
A group of raucous teenagers walking down the road?

No

A pack of coyotes was singing in front of the house.

I popped out of bed
With a joyous heart
Hoping to catch a glimpse of them
From the window.

My nervous dog followed
And I didn’t want her barking.

Cautiously, I peered out the window
But they must have heard me
Because they stopped their singing.

One little pup
Stood at the end of the driveway
Ears erect.

Wild dog joy
