I’m here at this place on Mondays. It’s because my library’s administration couldn’t be bothered to make logical decisions based on locations and populations and instead took the easy way out by “letting” the managers figure it out on their own.
It will likely be this way forever until my branch closes for a remodel and I choose to do something different.
I have no reason to hope for different because every time I do, my hopes get dashed and admin pushes back the more days open to the public. And I get that. Truly I don’t think we should be trying to serve the public as much as we are with our staffing the way it is.
The fact that we are doing so much I think is only leading towards more burnout. But who care what I think?
If anyone truly cared what I think, they would get me out of this f’ed up situation of being at a branch that doesn’t suit me for 1/5 of my total work time.
Public governments (in the US) don’t do much towards retaining good people. I guess it costs too much money.
