A Tiny Triumph

After watching Jenny Lawson’s TED talk about sharing stories, it really made me want to try to find time to share stories more regularly. So here goes…

A couple of days ago when I picked my son up after school, I noticed that his shoe was having a problem. He has black Reeboks with laces which he has literally only worn a handful of times. We bought them at the beginning of November, but he hasn’t worn them much. He preferred to wear his light up sparkle shoes (with Velcro) even though he sometimes was teased because other kids thought they were “girl” shoes. His sparkly shoes have finally kicked the bucket, so he has moved on to his Reeboks.

For some reason Reebok choose to really poorly design their shoes for kids and my son managed to pull off the shoelace holder for the top two shoelace holes leaving him with a crookedly laced shoe. (He actually managed to pull off one on the very first day he wore the shoes to school!) The shoelace holders look like they are stitched into the shoe, but they must not be stitched very well. Since I did not want to have to buy another new pair of shoes now, I pulled out my multipurpose tool and pulled out the awl. I punched through where the stupid little holders had been stitched on and made the shoe the way it should have been made for kids to begin with. Take that Reebok! And get better designers for your kids shoes if you want parents to buy them. I know I wont be buying this brand again for my son for many years.
